16 agent skills worth installing

For anyone using Claude Code or another coding agent who keeps re-explaining the same workflow. Star counts checked on 26 August 2026.

01 / THE IDEA

What a skill actually is

A recipe card the agent reaches for when the task matches. Without them you re-explain the same workflow every session, output quality tracks whatever mood the model is in, and anything multi-step drifts. With them the steps get written once and reused everywhere.

04 / THE ORDER

Install order from a standing start

The author’s closing line is the one to keep: do not collect skills like stickers. Install the ones that remove a pain you can feel this week. A small set you actually trigger beats a junk drawer.

05 / SECURITY

Security rules that carry over

  • Point offensive security skills only at systems you own or are authorised to test.
  • Give any autonomous browser agent its own profile. Never your main session.
  • Read install scripts before piping them into a shell.
  • Keep secrets out of prompts and out of skill logs.
  • Prefer local-first tools whenever the data is sensitive.
